Power Struggle

"He changes times and seasons.  He sets up kings.  He removes them from power.  The wisdom of those who are wise comes from him.  He gives knowledge to those who have understanding."
Daniel 2:21

One would have to be living under a rock to not realize this is an election year.  I find myself growing more and more concerned about our lack of viable choices of people to run our country.  I am praying the right person will get in, but this verse helps me remember that God is in control and ultimately His plan will be carried out.  I am very thankful that I live in a free country where I have the opportunity to vote.  As Memorial Day approaches I'm also reminded to be grateful for those who have sacrificed so much to give me that freedom.

Heart Search

"For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him..."
2 Chronicles 16:9

I'm sure many people remember the television show "Star Search".  For those that don't, it was the 1980's version of "American Idol" in which a panel of judges searches for the next big star.  (Sounds familiar, right?)  Well, much like Star Search, God is searching too.  He is seeking a heart that is fully committed to Him.  However, when God finds such a heart, the prize is much more than anyone will ever get from winning on a stupid TV show.  When God finds a fully committed heart, someone who is totally sold out to Him, He rewards that person with His strength.

As I study my Bible, I see this concept mentioned many times.  A very wise Pastor (yes, it is my Pastor) once told me that when you see an idea occurring over and over in scripture, pay attention.  It is significant.  God wants your worship.  He wants your praise and thanksgiving.  He wants you to spend time every day praying and reading your Bible.  God wants you to tithe a portion of your money to help further his kingdom here on earth.  However, the single most important thing God wants is your heart.  He doesn't want a small portion of it either.  He wants the whole thing - fully committed to Him.
